Wheel balancing is an essential part of wheel alignment. Any time a new tyre is fitted, the wheels should be realigned. This ensures that the wheels run smoothly after the tyre has been replaced, and there’s no ‘wobble’ once the vehicle is driven.
However, even if you haven’t had a tyre replaced recently, your wheels may still need balancing. This is because after a period of time, HGVs and larger vehicles encounter regular wear and tear that can throw your wheels out of balance.
How do I know I have an unbalanced wheel?
You may find that you feel more vibrations through your steering wheel, or the vehicle feels bumpier than usual. However, in larger vehicles, you might not ever be able to tell.
This doesn’t mean the effects aren’t being felt however. Suspension, tyre wear, and steering can all be affected by unbalanced wheels, which can be far more costly repairs in the long-run.
